What are the best baby toys for newborns that promote development?

A: Not much. But Mom is cuddling and talking and singing to the baby. That's about as much interaction a newborn can manage. Newborns need lots of sleep. Thus, in between eating and sleeping, the baby likes to hear Mom & cooing, singing for them. I used to put on music made just for babies (Soft Instrumentals & vocals luluby type) when I put my son in his bed sleeping. He was born premature so he was in the NICU nursery for 2 months. They had a harpist arrival (she volunteered) and play the beautiful soft music for babies. When I brought my son home, he rested, as soon as he heard his music I put on.Babies do not really need the toys until they can grasp things in their hands. So relax. All your baby really need in the beginning is mother to feed and comfort them. If you want, go to the child zone to a toy store and examine the recommened ages on the box of toys for babies. He always tells you what age group for his own good, plus he tells you that it helps to develop the child.Good luck!

How do I know which baby toys I should buy so I don't poison my child with lead?

Q: I wanted to buy my toys some new-born recently, but it should be noted that all baby toys are made in China. As we all know there was a small scare with lead levels in toys for babies has increased from China a few years ago. How can I find toys that have lead levels if I can avoid buying them? I have not found a good user friendly website for now. Also no evidence for replacement toys not made in China? Seems like there are none.

The wooden toys from China are those that are painted and are more likely to have paint containing lead (LBP). Fabric / items will be stuffed (CAN) to collect lead dust on floors. And then move on to children if they are not cleaned or washed frequently.

There was a website to recall the toys, but I do not now. But even this site may not list all toys made with lead.It is a good start, but I would test each toy wooden or plastic that I bought. It may not contain lead, plastic or vinyl.

The easiest way is to test a product call "Lead Check". They are small white tubes which provide a chemical (sodium rodizinate) to the surface. Leach if he could lead in turn color (pink or red). Call your local paint store to find them. There are several types of these chemical test kits, but my opinion is Lead Check is the better / easier.
