Tuesday, Feb. 2 (HealthDay hearsay) - Lack of brain serotonin may be key to the sudden death syndrome (SIDS), new research finds.

Babies who died from SIDS had significantly lower levels of serotonin - an important regulator of involuntary functions like breathing and heart rate lack of - compared to babies who have died from other causes, the study said. This finding may result when all is said a test that could screen infants to identify those most vulnerable to SIDS.

"This study confirms that SIDS is a serotonin uncontrollable, and we approach the fundamental mechanism behind SIDS, said the study's lead coach, Dr. Hannah Kinney C., a neurologist at Children's Hospital Boston Professor of Pathology grammar of Harvard Medical School.
